Workshop

Experimental methods in Biomechanics

Date: 13th September 2023, 09:00 am – 05:00 pm, Wrocław, Poland
The day before International Conference of Polish Society of Biomechanics “BIOMECHANICS 2023”.

A one-day ‘on site’ meeting on experimental studies in mechanics of tissues.
This workshop is open to undergraduate and PhD students interested in the topic of the workshop.
After the workshop participants are invited to visit Hydropolis.

1. Soft and Hard Tissue in Biomechanics

The tissues in the human body are largely mechanical in nature and are critical for our health. Their mechanical competence are affected by their composition-structure-function relationship. This workshop is structured around solid mechanics of materials and their application to the study of mechanical behaviour of hard and soft tissue. Topics include: mechanical behaviour of tissues (nonlinearity, anisotropy, viscoelasticity, fracture) with emphasis on the role of the microstructure of these tissues. The workshop applies the available methods to assess and understand these tissues from an experimental approach.

This topic will be conducted by Pik Instruments company.

2. Motion Capture Technology

This workshop will host undergraduate and PhD students interested in motion capture technology. The workshop will be conducted by GrupaMY – Wrocław based company that distributes motion capture systems, trains users and provides Motion Capture services.

The aim of the workshop is to present motion capture technology, particularly as they relate to human movement tracking in the game and film industry and biomechanics. During the workshop, a motion capture session will be carried out along with post-processing of collected data.

This topic will be conducted by MoCap Systems.

This workshop is aimed at stimulating active interactions among scientists in the bioengineering, biomechanics, mechanics and mechanobiology community.

There will be a core ‘onsite’ workshop with live talks and active discussion (anticipated number of onsite participants will be up to 30). Ample time will be provided to promote interactions with all speakers and participants.

Fee

The workshop is part of the Biomechanics 2023 Conference (13-16.09.2023), therefore it is intended for registered Participants. However, we are happy to announce a special offer for workshop students.

The cost of workshop participants in the entire Conference is only 1 500 PLN.

There is also a possibility of accommodation in a dormitory of the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (PLN 270 for 3 nights, a place in a double room) The number of places is limited.
